For one week in April, Google transforms Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas into the epicenter of innovation for the Google Cloud Next Conference. This massive event showcases Google's latest advancements, drawing over 30,000 attendees to a dynamic campus of presentations, lightning talks, demos, and workshops.
In 2025, the conference puts a major focus on Developer Experiences. As the Creative Director at George P Johnson, I led a team of creatives and strategists in designing dedicated spaces tailored to this audience. With these spaces spread across the vast expo floor, our challenge was to create a distinct and recognizable design language that made them stand out.
We embraced raw, industrial materials like scaffolding to create striking visual beacons visible from afar. A dark-mode color palette, with black bases, enhanced contrast and made the vibrant accent colors pop. To keep the environment playful and engaging, we used lighting inspired by coding carats and incorporated graphics and colors that resonated with the developer community’s unique background.`
